Umphres had a productive sophomore season as an infielder for the Aggies. He led the team with a .328 batting average and appeared in 54 games with 52 starts. Umphres also finished second on the team with 40 RBI and a .453 slugging percentage while also leading the team with 66 hits.
Paulson played in 48 games in 2013, starting in 37 of those games. He started a team-high 28 games at first base while also starting games at left field and as the designated hitter. Paulson finished second on the Aggie squad with 194 putouts. Offensively, Paulson hit .226 with 28 hits including six doubles, scored 24 runs, and 17 RBI.
Umphres, Paulson and the rest of the Aggies open a new era of NM State baseball under new head coach Brian Green, Friday, Feb. 13 in the Cardinal Classic hosted by Lamar University. The Aggies’ first game of the season is against Illinois at 10 a.m. (MT) on Friday and the second game of the year is that same day at 1 p.m. (MT) versus host team Lamar. The Aggies will face the same two teams, Saturday, Feb. 14 facing Illinois at 10 a.m. and Lamar at 5 p.m.
