Courtesy of New Mexico State University LAS VEGAS (Oct. 15, 2013) – The New Mexico State men’s basketball team was voted to win the Western Athletic Conference title in the WAC Coaches’ Preseason poll as well as in the media poll. Junior guard Daniel Mullings was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year in both polls.

Courtesy of New Mexico State University KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The New Mexico State volleyball team posted it second sweep of the week defeating Kansas City 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-17), Saturday, Oct. 12 in Kansas City, Mo. and remains undefeated in Western Athletic Conference play.
With the win the Aggies take sole possession of first place in the WAC while this also marks the first time NM State is 6-0 in conference play since 2004 when they were a part of the Sun Belt Conference. The Aggies are 11-8 overall and 6-0 in league play. Courtesy of New Mexico State University LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State soccer’s Jannae Cambra was named Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 7-13, the conference office announced Monday morning. Cambra, a junior forward from Morgan Hill, Calif. (Sobrato HS), scored each of the Aggies’ three goals over the weekend with five shots on goal. She helped NM State comeback from a 2-0 deficit at Utah Valley, scoring two goals to secure a 2-2 tie. She also scored NM State’s lone goal in a 2-1 double-overtime loss at Bakersfield earlier in the week. Over her two matches, Cambra recorded three goals, five shots on goal and six points. NM State (4-9-2, 1-5-1 WAC) continues on the road with a trip to Grand Canyon on Friday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. and six points. NM State ranks No. 9 after competing three times in September.

Senior Tara Wilson was among the four riders to receive the award. She was recognized for her accomplishments in the reining event.
Courtesy of NBC Sports When the latest round of conference realignment came to its conclusion, the Western Athletic Conference looked nothing like the league many had become familiar with. Of the fifteen players to receive All-WAC honors last season just two return: New Mexico State’s Daniel Mullings and Sim Bhullar. Both played pivotal roles on last season’s WAC tournament champion squad, with the 7-foot-5 Bhullar winning tournament MVP honors and Mullings earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Departed seniors Amber Olive and Teresa Conrad, juniors Chelsea Dohrwardt and Karysta Donisthorpe, sophomores Thai Ramirez and Tatum Reedy and senior Kristi Covarrubia are among the 4,000 softball student-athletes who earned a 3.50 or better grade point average for the 2012-13 academic year.
Courtesy of New Mexico State University DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference announced on Monday, Oct. 7, that senior middle hitter Desiree Scott was named WAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6. This is her first Player of the Week honor during her career.
Courtesy of ESPN The New Orleans Saints have agreed to a deal with former Canadian Football League star receiver/kick returner Chris Williams, agent Dan Vertlieb confirmed Thursday.
It's not clear yet if Williams will join the practice squad or the active roster. The Saints have not announced the transaction, which won't become official until Friday. Williams, 25, got NFL looks with the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent out of New Mexico State in 2009. But it was in the CFL where he made his mark, scoring a team-record 17 touchdowns last year (11 receiving, five on punt returns and one on a missed field goal return) with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The six return touchdowns set a CFL record. The Aggies entered the rankings for the first time this season at No. 10.
