The Dr. McKinley and Mrs. Magellia Boston Endowed Scholarship Fund will be used to provide scholarship support to one or more Aggie student-athletes that will be selected by the athletic director.
“This endowed scholarship fund is to recognize all that Dr. Boston has done as athletic director during the past 10 years,” said Fred Heinrich, NM State associate athletic director for development. “Academics have always been important to Dr. Boston and Magellia, as well as having our student-athletes give back to the community of Las Cruces as they attend New Mexico State.”
“We all thought that creating a scholarship fund in their names would be a great way to honor them both,” he said.
“Magellia and I are honored that our friends and supporters would do this for us,” Boston said. “As an athlete, winning on the field was very important to me. Also it was very important to teach our student-athletes the value of hard work, study and team work. Those traits will serve them well in the game of life.”
The scholarship fund will be held at the New Mexico State University Foundation. Income generated from the endowment will be awarded by the athletic director to student-athletes as scholarship funds.
The minimum amount for endowment accounts at the NMSU Foundation is set at $25,000.
“We have received generous donations and pledges that surpass the required minimum,” Heinrich said. “We really appreciate the contributions of everyone who has supported this cause. Endowment accounts can always be added to, so anyone else who would like to recognize the good work done by Dr. Boston and Magellia can always donate to this fund.”
