In the 5K run, Rubio ran a final time of 15:30.60 and had an average mile of 4:59.6, which placed him first for NM State and sixth overall. Rubio is a senior from Port Townsend, Wash. and attended Port Townsend High School before going to Everett Community College where he helped the team win the 2011 NWAACC Cross Country Championship.
Hawk finished first for NM State and seventh overall with a final time of 18:49.81 averaging a 6:03.7 mile. Hawk attended EL Dorado High School before joining the NM State team. During her time at NM State, Hawk has been a part of the indoor and outdoor track team along with the cross country team and has seen much success in each sport.
Hawk and Rubio will compete in the NM State hosted Kachina Classic on Sat., Sept. 20 at Centennial High School beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the New Mexico State Golf Course.
