“Sasha had great all-around games last week, especially against UNM,” Aggie head coach Mark Trakh said. “She played well offensively, rebounded, defended and had a great floor game. She also added some big shots when we really needed them. We are all very proud of her performance.”
Weber finished the week averaging 23 points, four rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists per game while only turning the ball over three times in the two games. She shot 57.7 percent from the field (15-16), 50 percent from 3-point range (7-14) and 75 percent from the free-throw line (9-12).
Weber began the week by sinking eight of her 12 shots from the field against Eastern New Mexico to eclipse her previous career scoring high of 22 points. But her best 23-point performance of the week came against the Lobos, whom NM State had not defeated in 12-straight games.
The Aggie junior shot .500 versus UNM, both from the field (7-14) and from beyond the arc (5-10), and it seemed that every 3-pointer she sank came at a critical time for NM State, either to give the Aggies the lead or to thwart a Lobo comeback attempt.
Although this is Weber’s first player of the week nod, it is not her first honor of the season as she was also named to the WAC and College Sports Madness Preseason All-WAC first teams.
Weber and the rest of the NM State squad continue their six-game homestand inside the Pan American Center with a matchup versus North Dakota State on Sunday, Dec. 14, beginning at 2 p.m. (MT).
