Participants should meet at the practice gym by 10 a.m. to turn in all related paperwork and get dressed for warm-up and training.
Those wishing to try and walk-on to the 2014-15 women’s basketball team must contact the team’s director of player development Erica Sanchez at (575) 646-5470 or [email protected]. Students with further questions regarding the walk-on tryouts should also contact Sanchez.
Prior to the tryout, individuals must complete the following requirements to be eligible by NCAA and University policy for tryouts:
• Pick-up the tryout form from the compliance office located on the north side of the Pan Am Arena, next to the ticket office.
• You will need to take the form to the athletic trainer in the Fulton Center on the 2nd floor. You will need to have:
1) Proof of Insurance and
2) Proof of Physical with doctor’s statement that athlete is cleared for physical activity. You must also get a Sickle Cell test done and the results must be provided to the training staff along with the physical papers for clearance (you must have BOTH, the physical and the Sickle cell test to try-out).
If you are unable to get a physical from your home doctor, you can get a physical from Campus Health on the NM State campus. The number is 575-646-1512. You will need to schedule at least a week in advance of the tryout date to ensure enough time to get the sickle cell test results back. The athletic trainer will sign the form when he/she approves you to tryout.
• You will then need to take that form back to the compliance office (next to the NM State Ticket Office) so that they may assess your academic eligibility and all things related to ensure you are eligible to tryout/play basketball at NM State.
