“Maria is a great student from Mexico which will help ease the transition into being a student-athlete at NM State,” Booth said. “She is a fun little player to watch that has a great short game and a positive attitude every time she sets foot on the course. Her upside is huge and it will be awesome to see her develop while she is here at NM State.”
Blumears, who was born in Harare, Zimbabwe, was raised in the Phoenix, Ariz., area where she attended Mountain Pointe High School. During her four years there, Blumears played golf and was named the team MVP as a sophomore, junior and senior. She also placed ninth individually in the state (Arizona) tournament during her senior year.
“Lauren is another student-athlete that will bring with her a great work ethic in both academics and athletics,” said Booth. “She is an extremely hard worker who is becoming better and better each day. We are very fortunate to have found Lauren as both Jackie and I feel that we found 'The Diamond in the Rough' from Arizona.”
The Aggie women’s golf team is wrapping up its academic responsibilities for the fall semester and will begin play in the spring semester starting with the Texas State Delta Gamma Spring Challenge in New Braunfels, Texas, Feb. 15-16.
