“Emma has really been consistent for us in 2015,” NM State head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “She had an outstanding week at the plate and also defensively. Her leadership in the infield was outstanding this weekend and her presence at the plate was key for us.”
Adams went 2-for-4 in three of the five games in Las Vegas, beginning with the tournament opener against host UNLV, where she hit a double in the first inning and later scored the only run of the entire game.
She then duplicated the 2-for-4 versus Wisconsin where she had a couple of singles and scored a run. Versus UL-Monroe, Adams again had a double and scored in her first at bat as the Aggies pulled out a one-run win.
After kick starting the NM State offense in a couple of games with first-inning doubles, Adams took it to another level in a rematch with Wisconsin as she came up in the first and belted a two-run home run that guided the Aggies to another one-run victory. It was her fourth home run of the season.
Not only did Adams lead NM State during last week’s tournament, she also leads the team this season with a .406 batting average and is second on the squad with 20 RBIs and one long ball behind the home run leaders.
This is Adams’ second weekly award this year as she was also named the WAC Hitter of the Week by the conference for the week of Feb. 9-15. She was also honored on the Preseason All-WAC team before the start of the season.
This is also the second award this week for the Aggies as Corrin Green was named the WAC Hitter of the Week on Monday.
NM State fans can catch Adams, Green and the rest of the Aggie squad this weekend at the NM State Softball Complex as the team welcomes Tulsa and North Dakota for round robin play beginning Friday. Log on to www.nmstatesports.com for a full schedule.
