From NMStateAggies on Instagram 8/6/14 The NM State incoming freshman and transfer student-athletes holding the 100 year old game ball during their required NCAA Acclimation meeting. The football is from 1913 and is signed by the team as well as having the season games and scores on it. Of greater importance is one of the signatures is Joe Quesenberry who was the first Aggie soldier to go overseas and lose his life in battle in WWI, and was also captain of the Aggie Football team. It is one of the oldest pieces of Aggie Football history in the Alumni center. JB Copeland wearing the freshman beanie during Colleen Richardson's presentation last week as incoming freshman and transfer students were able to learn about NM State history. The freshman beanie was a tradition for all entering freshman. It was commonly worn at many campus social activities specifically the painting of “A” mountain where freshman were the primary source of labor to haul old milk cans full of white wash from person to person in a line up the mountain to repaint the “A” every year. This was a very strong tradition at NMSU where all classes of students participated but the freshman did the main part of paint the “A”. A BBQ and live music from the band was typically provided at the base of the mountain. The Sundancers and the Pride of New Mexico started practice last week to get ready for the season.
