Between Claremont’s gem in the circle and stellar defense, the Aggies were limited to 15 at-bats.
NM State freshman Dallas McBride (5-4) suffered the loss in the circle against LBSU, allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits while recording three strikeouts.
NM State turned things around against Harvard in the second game of the night, chalking up five runs in the first inning.
“In the first game, Long Beach was stellar and we weren’t. We bounced back in the nightcap and played more our brand of softball,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “We are a very good team when we trust our approaches and stick with our game plan. I expect us to go out tomorrow and play Aggie softball.”
Mikayla McAdams led the Aggies in the circle hurling 4.0 innings. McAdams gave up the only two runs of the game as she picked up the win.
Senior Staci Rodriguez recorded her seventh home run of the season in the fourth inning plating in the last run of the game.
Day two action in the tournament for NM State starts Saturday at 11:30 p.m. (MT) against UNLV followed by UConn at 5:30 p.m. (MT).
