Donisthorpe pitched 16.1 innings, allowing only three earned runs while striking out 15, including five batters versus both Montana and the 18th-ranked team in the country, Nebraska. She limited opponents to a .262 batting average throughout the tournament.
“We are very proud of Karysta, she performed exceptionally well this weekend while mentoring our freshman pitcher,” Aggie head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “We have high expectations for our whole pitching staff. We had our hands full with some great hitting teams this weekend, but Karysta showed a lot of poise under pressure.”
Donisthorpe began the week, and season, by pitching a complete-game shutout over Montana in an 8-0 NM State victory. She struck out five batters in her six innings of work while only walking one hitter.
The New Mexico native then had what was perhaps her best performance of the week as she did not allow a run for the second-straight day, but this time versus the nationally-ranked Huskers. Donisthorpe entered the game with NM State down on the scoreboard, but finished the game with four innings pitched while striking out five Nebraska batters and holding one of the top teams in the country scoreless en route to helping the Aggies to a comeback win.
Donisthorpe picked up her third win of the tournament after leading the Aggies to an 8-3 win against Colorado State. She started in the circle and went 3.2 innings while only allowing four hits and one run to the Rams.
NM State will host a tournament for the second-consecutive week as the Aggies welcome Kansas, Bradley and Weber State to Las Cruces to participate in the Troy Cox Classic, which will run from Friday, Feb. 13, through Sunday, Feb. 15.
