Stickney will be charged with fundraising and support for capital projects as well as student-athlete scholarships and endowment. Long Beach State is currently working on a number of capital projects, including major improvements to the Jack Rose Track, renovations to Blair Field, kick started by a $1 million dollar donation by Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, and the creation of locker room facilities for Long Beach State's on-campus outdoor sports.
“Kierstin and I are going to miss the relationships,” Stickney said. “New Mexico, Las Cruces and NM State have been home for us the last four years. This is a wonderful community and we will miss it.”
“NM State’s department of athletics congratulates Wayne on his new position at Long Beach State and the opportunity to go home,” Boston said. “We are very appreciative for the valuable service provided over the past four years. In Wayne's words, ‘Go Beach’.”
“We are always saddened to lose one of our development team members, but we are very happy for Wayne as he returns to his alma mater,” said Tina Byford, Interim Vice President for University Advancement. “The university is committed to continuing a strong relationship with our donors who are dedicated to the athletics’ program, and we are working to fill the position quickly.”
Stickney joined the Aggie family on January 18, 2010, to lead the Aggie Athletic Club and the NMSU Intercollegiate Athletics Department’s fundraising initiatives. He came to NM State from Long Beach State Athletics where he served in many roles, most recently as the Director of Development and Strategic Planning. Stickney earned a bachelor of arts degree in communication studies with a minor in mathematics, and a master of science degree in counseling and student development in higher education, all from CSU-Long Beach. Stickney and his wife, Kierstin, have two daughters.
